TDS Pumps Successfully Off-loads ATHOS I

On Friday, November 26, 2004 the Cyprus registered single-hull tanker T/S Athos I was reported to be leaking oil into the Delaware River on its route to an asphalt refinery in New Jersey, USA.

US Coast Guard Divers found a large piece of submerged pump casing and an lost anchor in the tanker's path probably causing the spill incident.

The US Coast Guard estimate the spill at approximately 265,000 gallon of heavy Venezuelan crude oil, (see picture bellow)

The spill has so far affected approximately 115 miles of shoreline along the tidal portion of the Delaware River and in response to the initial threat two reactors at the Salem Nuclear Power Plant was shot down along the river at Artificial Island, New Jersey.
