MDPC Tests FOILEX TDS 200 Sea Skimmer

Performance tests were conducted by the MDPC (Maritime Disaster Prevention Center) to establish if Foilex TDS 200 Sea Skimmer meets Japanese legal standards of debris in oil recovery capability. The tests took place in MDPC’s training tank in Yokosuka, Japan.

The performed tests on FOILEX TDS 200 Skimmer unit simulated tough conditions, where the equipment must recover oil and debris together.

The sea state conditions were 8 meters (26 ft) wave length with 30 centimetres (1 ft) wave height.

Specially prepared floating debris such as wooden sticks were introduced, reaching a stipulated 20 kg per square meter on sea surface.

MDPC’s final report comments as follow:

......judging from the test results, the TDS 200 Sea Skimmer is considered to meet the legal standards in Japan relating to the debris recovery capability of the oil recovery equipment.

......the Foilex equipment is fully capable of cutting certain debris into smaller pieces, thus recovering oil and debris together under wavy conditions.

The MDPC was established in 1976 to implement disaster prevention measures, stockpile resources and equipment for disasters and to offer disaster prevention training in Japan.
