High Viscous Oil Recovery Workshop.

The technical project group within the "Copenhagen Agreement" in the Nordic countries has accomplished a two day High Viscous Oil Workshop at the Centre for Marine and Environmental Safety in Horten, Norway.

Oil Spill Response Organisations, Scientists and Manufacturers from the Nordic countries where invited to share knowledge and discuss new solutions for already existing oil recovery equipment.

The group lead by Mr. Johan Marius Ly, SFT identified three general areas of problem for most of the existing Oil Recovery Systems and Skimmers :

  • Oil recovery with debris.
  • Oil flow into the pump unit.
  • Pumping of oil to recovery tank.

  • During the workshop presentations were given regarding the special characteristics and classifications of various heavy fuel oils and orimulsion. Today these types of oils are more then ever in focus due to the increased transportation of Russian crude oil in the Baltic Sea.
A total of nine manufacturers, among them FOILEX, also presented special techniques for high viscous oil recovery and pumping.
