TDS Skimmers to the "Prestige" Oil Spill, Spain
On Tuesday FOILEX delivered a substantial amount of oil spill recovery equipment to SASEMAR (Spanish Maritime Safety Agency) for use in the current Spanish oil spill disaster caused by the Bahamian-flagged "Prestige" Oil tanker.
The Tanker carrying 20 million gallons of oil yesterday broke in two and sank, after several days of battle against weather and wind in the Atlantic ocean just off the Spanish Galician coast line.
The oil spill now threatens not only the Spanish coast line, but also Portuguese and French interests.
Following Spanish authorities' requests for emergency delivery of high viscous oil skimmers, FOILEX packed and dispatched a total of ten TDS Screw Pump Skimmer Systems during Tuesday night.
The TDS Skimmer technology was specifically developed for efficient operation in viscous oil spill situations following the Exxon Valdez disaster in 1989 in Alaska.
Several TDS Skimmers were also used successfully by the Frence Navy during the "Erika" oil spill 1999, outside the coast of Brittany, France.
Since 1996, FOILEX have delivered a total of 27 Skimmer units of various models to SASEMAR and other Spanish oil spill response organisations through our Spanish distributor MARKLEEN TERRA in Zaragoza.
